Unpainting
Original software and video projected onto prepared wall
Private residence
August 2006

I scraped the paint off of a large section of wall. That process was filmed. I edited myself out and ended up with still frames of the paint disappearing. Reversing that edited footage gave me a simulation of paint re-applying itself to the wall. With original software I incorporated: multiple layers; random starting and stopping points at variable times; time flowing forward or backward at random, sometimes simltaneously on different layers; and dynamic transparency. The live-computer-processed video is projected back onto the naked wall.

The finished piece, then, is composed of a projection of paint being scraped and re-appearing on a naked section of wall where the paint has been scratched away. It is always changing, always looks different.
